Summer access to Bloomberg Law, Lexis Advance and Westlaw Next

As the summer approaches, the question always comes up: “What happens to my Westlaw/Lexis/Bloomberg access while I’m working over the summer?”  As always, the library is here to answer all of your questions and make your research transition as smooth as possible.

For Rising 2Ls and 3Ls:

Bloomberg Law & Lexis Advance

Your access to Bloomberg Law& Lexis Advance will not change.  You may use either system for research related to any school work, private study or employment during the summer.

WestlawNext

WLN searchYour access to Westlaw Next will be limited to 40 hours of use per month during June and July unless you register for summer access before the end of May.  You can register for summer access if needed for academic purposes, such as:

  • work on Moot Court,
  • a law review or journal
  • an unpaid externship for which you receive law school credit
  • or work as a faculty research assistant.

To register for summer access, click on the “Request a Password Extension” image in the middle of the Westlaw Welcome screen after logging in:  http://lawschool.westlaw.com

For Graduating Students:

Bloomberg Law

bloomberg lawYour access to Bloomberg Law will continue for six months after graduation.  During that time you may use Bloomberg for research related to any bar preparation, interview preparation, private study or employment.

Lexis Advance

lexis advance logoYour access to Lexis Advance will stop after graduation unless you register for the Graduate ID Program: http://www.lexisnexis.com/grad-access  The Graduate ID Program will allow you to use Lexis Advance through the end of the year (December 31, 2014), but only for the following purposes: education, bar preparation and job search.

Graduating students who will be employed by nonprofit organizations can also apply for the Lexis ASPIRE ID Program: http://www.lexisnexis.com/grad-access  The ASPIRE ID Program provides access to Lexis Advance from graduation until September 1, 2015.

Westlaw & WestlawNext

Your access to WestlawNext and Westlaw Classic will be severely limited after graduation unless you register for extended access.  The details are here: http://bit.ly/1kRAadR   Extended access will permit you to use WestlawNext and Westlaw Classic for sixty hours per month until the end of November 2014.
